C. W. (Toph) Marshall is Professor of Greek at the University of British Columbia. His work centres on Greek and Roman theatre, ancient performance, and the continuing life of classical literature across stage, film, television, and popular culture.

He has directed ancient plays for the modern stage and written extensively on Greek and Roman performance. His books include The Stagecraft and Performance of Roman Comedy, Euripides: Helen, and Aeschylus: Libation Bearers.

As Classical Consultant to Throughline, Professor Marshall advises on the Foundation’s Greek projects. He brings scholarship in language, performance, and cultural context into the adaptation process, helping Throughline carry each work from its original form into cinema.
